The Move Well Method
As humans, we are creatures of habit, and we get comfortable with the routine. Before we’ve noticed, 20 years go by and we are still eating the same breakfast, doing the same workout routine, and walking the same route every day.
Bodies change with age and it's important that we change along with it! Repetitive movement or a limited amount of variety or load can make us vulnerable to pain or injury.
When my body began to hurt all the time in my mid-fifties, I was a devoted yogi, having practised and taught yoga for many years. Though I enjoyed other activities, most of my movements involved stretching and repetition of my favourite yoga poses.
When I went on a deep dive to learn why my body was hurting so much, I discovered that the repetitive nature of the yoga practice, combined with a lack of variety and load in my movement patterns had developed into imbalances and weaknesses throughout my body.
By the time I was in my mid-fifties, these imbalances had developed into pain and recurring injuries in my ankles, hips and shoulders.
My research taught me that in order to maintain strength and prevent injury as we age, we need to move often, add load, include plenty of variety and make time to rest and recover.
The old adage, “use it or lose it” applies very well.
The more variety we include, the more muscles, joints and tissues are moving throughout the body and the stronger, more agile we will remain.
The Move Well With Carolyn Method is a holistic, full-body approach to movement that includes mobility, stability, strength training and balance challenges.
As a movement coach, my greatest joy is to see my clients connect the dots between the mind and body as they awaken, strengthen and nourish dormant or under-utilized muscles and joints.
The Move Well with Carolyn Method improves mobility in the joints, develops strength and stability throughout the body, and flexibility and fluidity in the spine, shoulders and hips. This unique method is designed specifically to offer an effective approach to movement and healthy aging for women at midlife and beyond.
